In 1998 Sam joined Ernst & Young’s tax investigation team in the North of England, having previously worked for a small firm of accountants in Beverley for five years preparing accounts and advising private clients regarding their personal tax affairs. Sam attained her professional tax qualification in 2001 as a Chartered Tax Adviser. Sam left Ernst Young’s Tax Investigation Team in May 2007 to join Gilbert Tax as a partner.
Sam is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and held the post of Chairman of the Leeds branch between April 2008 and April 2010.
Sam is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and currently holds the post of Chairman of the Leeds branch.
Sam has extensive experience in tax investigation including:
- Specialist Investigations (SI) and Civil Investigations of Fraud (CIF) COP 9 enquiries covering cases of suspected serious tax frauds
- Specialist Investigations COP 8 enquiries in cases where large sums were suspected to be outstanding but fraud does not seem to be an issue (often planning arrangements like Trusts and EBT’s)
- Criminal Investigations – civil compliance enquiries
- Corporation Tax Self Assessment/Income Tax Self Assessment enquiries
- PAYE Compliance
- Residency and domicile investigations
- Offshore bank account investigations
- Capital Gains Tax investigations
- Property Tax investigations
- Failure to register for Tax, National Insurance and VAT
Sam also has experience of advising private clients regarding their personal tax affairs, including income, capital gains and inheritance tax planning.
