Tax Evasion – Former UFC Fighter Faces Jail for Tax Evasion |
|
More accustomed to fights in the ring than the courtroom, Ian Freeman, a former UFC champion is faced with the prospect of jail on account of tax evasion. According to a report in the Northern Echo, the UFC champ engaged in flagrant tax evasion over a number of years. Tax evasion is an issue of clear importance and it is an offence which seems to have been thrust increasingly under the spotlight in recent years, predominantly because of the number of high profile tax evasion cases of late. One of the most recent cases of tax evasion to emerge is that of former UFC fighting champion, Ian Freeman, who recently admitted to 5 charges bought about by HM Revenue and Customs relating to his tax evasion over a number of years. According to the report in the Northern Echo, Ian Freeman owes in excess of £35,000 from his tax evasion and given the extent of his tax avoidance, a custodial sentence looks decidedly likely. The actual tax evasion stems from Ian Freeman failing to declare the earnings that he made as he forged a successful career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Tax evasion clearly shows itself in many different forms but, in this case, it was simply a question of the individual not being candid about their earnings.
