According to the report in the Mirror, at least three television and sports stars are coming under particular scrutiny amidst suspicion that they are engaged in high levels of tax evasion and are part of an overall investigation that intends to get to the bottom of as much as £1 billion worth of tax evasion in the UK. Speaking to the Mirror, head of taxation in the UK, David Hartnett, stated, "There are certainly people in the entertainment industry under investigation. We are talking about major names. We've seen a number of cases of individuals that should have been paying millions of pounds in tax. There's a great spectrum of people involved. These are extremely wealthy Brits hiding money abroad." It is often the case that those in the entertainment industries strive to keep their earnings intact by engaging in offshore tax evasion; something which the authorities in the UK hope to bring to an end.

Speaking to the Mirror, Dave Hartnett explains, "We are looking at Brits in all these places. They all have banking secrecy laws.
